The Australian High Commission in Nuku’alofa invites applications for the position of Defence Office Manager.
About the role:
We are looking for an Office Manager for its Defence Office. The Australian Defence Team in Tonga works closely with His Majesty’s Armed Forces of Tonga and manages the Defence Cooperation Program. You would work in a small team, under the direction of the Defence Adviser, managing budgets, processing payments, providing administrative assistance (booking travel, arranging visas, vehicle licences, managing assets and property maintenance, drafting third person notes, driving tasks, etc) to the Australian Defence Force members posted to Tonga and working with stakeholders.
The Office Manager also provides personal administration support the Defence Adviser South Pacific which may require arranging meetings and assisting with visiting delegations to Tonga. Our culturally diverse team works flexibly, and other tasks may be allocated as required.
International or domestic travel is occasionally required to represent the Australian Department of Defence at meetings or attend training. The applicant must be available to attend a course in Australia 19-26 October 2019 (including travel time) and should have a valid driver’s licence.
Flexible or part-time working arrangements will be considered, subject to the ability to meet operational requirements.

Terms of employment:
The terms of employment will be in accordance with the Nuku’alofa – Locally Engaged Staff Terms and Conditions of Employment. Employment will be offered on a permanent (on-going) contract basis at the LE4 broadband level with an annual salary range between TOP26,113 and TOP28,289 depending on experience. Continued employment is subject to a successful completion of a six month probation period.
The Australian High Commission in Nuku’alofa offers a package that includes recreation and personal carer’s days, medical benefits, and superannuation contributions.
The Australian High Commission in Nuku’alofa will not be responsible for any costs incurred if applying for a Tongan visa, relocation costs, nor the return of the officer and family to their country of origin at the end of the contract.
